Change is Yours to be Had
Earlier this year, I moved into a new apartment. For over a decade, I had lived in San Francisco’s Civic center, a neighborhood that’s become overrun with the homeless, the drug-addicted and the mentally unstable. Don’t get me wrong. They are all deserving of far better than their current circumstances.
But the point is that I focused, found just what I wanted in a a beautiful abode with lots of light, and I waged tactical urban warfare by beating out scads of competing applicants. My new neighborhood, while being only a mile away, feels like a world away. Clean sidewalks, no wee hour screaming, and a skip and a hop from the heart of the city.
I’m writing this as a word of encouragement to those who need it. Persevere, my friends. Change is yours to be had. Turn in the right direction, put one foot out, advance.
