Self-Care Fundamentals

Regardless of the industry, in an age where our attention is tempted by so many media sources, when so much strife and dissent exists (not to mention the distraction of macroeconomic stresses), it’s key to ensure that we’re taking care of ourselves meaning our minds, soul and body. What that means for any single individual is subjective, but these are mine:

#1 Health: Health is wealth. To preserve one’s health is to preserve my options whether that be how, where and with whom I invest my energy and interests. My action is to do a daily series of home exercises involving my body weight so I keep things tuned.

#2 Good Mental Health: My action is to do right by my family and friends, and I don’t impose stresses on myself from unhealthy lifestyle choices. For example, my alcohol intake is minimal. A glass too much and I awake next day with the blues. Who needs that? Not I.

#3 A Sense of Serenity: Five years ago, I rid myself of half of my personal effects a la Marie Kondo. Having less to keep track of, clean and maintain translates into less stress. And keeping my private and professional workspaces clutter-free maximizes my spatial bliss.

#4 Forgiveness and Gratitude: More is more.
