Thief of Joy

I know better, but I still do it. I compare myself with others…how far I’ve advanced relative to my peers, whether they have better work-life balance that me, what kind and number of vacations they take. And the same can extend to this world where, looking at other voice actors, it’s easy to fall into the trap of seeing what prominent campaigns and professional opportunities are afforded others.

But my journey is my own to walk. And what I try to bear in mind is that the process matters just as much, if not more than the result. If I’m doing what I love every day, appropriately challenging myself and learning, doing things that scare me, but forging ahead anyway, basically doing the best I can at every juncture, that’s all I can ask of myself. We live in a time when anything we wish to learn - anything - is available is at our fingertips so there’s no reason to limit our knowledge and reach.

And let’s be clear, the image of others on social media is a curated visage so don’t even think of using that as a benchmark. Let’s follow our own paths and not let comparison be the thief of our joy.
